Work Permits

This section is to provide individuals and applicant with an understanding about work permits.

Eligibility

Not everyone is entitled or eligible for work permits. Typically, you must be on employment or investor visa to obtain work. Spouses or dependents of certain non-immigrant visa holders may also be eligible for work permits or education purposes only. You are also eligible for a work permit if you have a process pending to obtain residency. There are other circumstances in which individuals may obtain a work permit.

Limited Employment

Those that do have work permits, may be limited to work only for a specific employer or specific position. This is determined on the status the individual is given.

Unauthorized Work

Those certain non-immigrants who are not authorized to work or those that are limit may find themselves violating their status or falling out of status if they are working without authorization or in a manner that is not authorized. These individuals may be subject to removal.
